America is not perfect. It has a history of slavery, racism and discrimination. In the early years of its history, there were millions of slaves brought here against their will from Africa.
Then, the Civil War and President Abraham Lincoln ended slavery when he signed the Emancipation Proclamation. But the Emancipation Proclamation did not end discrimination.
